D4M Project Pipeline Proposal

For the next 5-6 weeks the Design for Media class will be working on a massive (~18 people) group project.  For this Tuesday each person in class is to submit a proposal for their idea.

My proposal is an animated music video.

Ryan Woodward has an excellent example of this in his animation for “Thought of You” by The Weepies.

Thought of You from Ryan J Woodward on Vimeo.

Of course, the Gorillaz and Studio Killers have been doing this for a while (moreso for the former), but I’m not as experienced with 3D programs to spearhead a CGI animation.

I understand how difficult it would be to create a song and music video in only six weeks, so this will undoubtedly be a song already made with a Creative Commons License.

Now that the idea is out of the way, it’s time to discuss jobs.

At the top of the food chain is the Executive Producer, who will be the D4M team leader.

Below them will be the role of Director, who is directly above the Head of Art Direction and the Head of Editorial.

The Head of Art Direction will be in charge of those involved with the visual and aural aspects of the video.  They will be in charge of the Research/Development, Animation, Sound Departments and their respective crews.  Animation will have Keyframers, Inbetweeners, Clean-up Artists, and Colorists.

The Head of Editorial is in charge of the documentation of the project and its production.  Below them is the Blog Moderator, who will maintain a blog to document progress; a Branding and Advertising DepartmentCredit List and Documentary Manager; and Competition Researcher.

And finally, a Gantt Chart for the project’s projected timeline..

Feedback is greatly appreciated.  Thank you for your time.
